Proud Award Winners - Small Business Champions for Environment Business
On February 26th 2020, Ecostainable was named Champion Environmental Business at the Australian Small Business Champion Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony in Sydney.
Recognised as the Oscars for small business the Australian Small Business Champion Awards is the only national recognition program for Australian small businesses.
Managing director of Precedent Productions and founder of the awards Steve Loe said the program aims to recognise outstanding Australian small businesses and encourage high standards of excellence in small business practice.
“The Australian Small Business Champion Awards is a way to recognise the efforts of small business people whose efforts contribute to the prosperity and vitality of communities across Australia,” he said.
“As a small business owner myself, I know the vision and dedication to excellence required to succeed.
“These traits have been displayed in abundance by all of our 2020 Small Business Champions.”
Ecostainable Australia owner Karen Saunders said she was not expecting to win the award.
“It’s really exciting to get Australia wide recognition as a start up business,” she said.
“It was an awesome experience even just to go to the awards night.”
Ms Saunders is the founder of Victoria’s largest rural eco store – Ecostainable – based out of Lismore in the heart of the Western Districts.
She said in the last four years she had turned her idea into a thriving business, selling online, at sustainability expos and markets across the Western District, The Bellarine and the Great Ocean Road.
“It is my mission to change the world, one home at a time, by helping people reduce their environmental footprint and to live more sustainably,” Ms Saunders said.
“Ecostainable’s range includes single use plastic alternatives, zero waste and non-toxic options; ranging from dental care essentials, waste free food storage, to plant based cleaning and laundry products.”
She said since opening a shopfront in Lismore the business continues to expand.
“We’re currently advertising for a casual store assistant,” Ms Saunders said.
“Once I can get someone in to help, opens me up to more avenues to grow the business.”
